New Mexico Route 66 photographs
Whiting Brothers was an important truckstop chain along Route 66 in the west. All that remains today are weathering signs, boarded up stations and burned out motels. (Rumor has it that one station may still be operating.) This particular sign near San Fidel defies sun, wind and blowing sand but its companion motel (across Route 66 in the background) fell to another element - fire.
